Do You Know the 7 Ways
to Shoot Your Auction
in the Foot?
The
fastest and easiest way to make money online is through
auctions. If you want to start your own business, there is no
cheaper way than to selling through online auctions. A
convenient
way to learn is through selling unwanted items
sitting around your home.
Anyone can open an account and
start selling. However, not everyone will be successful!
Here are seven basic ways
to avoid killing your auction:
1. Poorly Written Headline
When a customer is looking for a particular item, they do a
search. This search will have the title of the item they
are interested in buying. It is imperative that your title include
these words! You only have a limited number of characters
and you need to use them wisely. Do NOT waste this
precious space on adjectives and punctuations marks.
2. Lack of Quality Photos
You are at a serious disadvantage if you do not include
photographs in your auction. Potential customers want to
see the item they are bidding on. Even if your photos
were taken with an inexpensive digital camera, that is
better than nothing. You want to give a clear and
accurate picture of the item you are selling.
3. Inadequate Description
So many descriptions on auctions are meager at least
and don’t give the bidder enough information. You have
as much space as you want to utilize. Go overboard! If
you have anecdotal story, include it. This will make the
auction more interesting to bidder.
4. Negative Feedback
You do not want to do anything to jeopardize your feedback
rating. Treat it like gold! Always treat your customer well
and they will come back. If you have provided quality
pictures and an accurate description, people understand
the condition of the item of interest. This will reduce the
number of dissatisfied customers.
5. Auction Format
Auction formats range widely from unreadable and boring to
flashy and distracting. You want to try to stay in the middle.
Make a simple template that give definition to your
auction
and allows the bidder to focus
on the your item.
6. Limited Payment Options
If you only accept checks or money orders, you are severely
limiting the number of bidders. It is essential that you provide
at least one form of online payment. Every auction site has a
service that they recommend.
7. Outrageous Shipping Charges
If you charge an outrageous shipping amount you are going to
turn away customers. It is reasonable to cover the cost of
the packing materials and pay yourself for your time. If you goal
is to make most of your money on your shipping you will loose
business and potentially to banned.
There are volumes written on these topics. If you have an
interest in selling via auctions, take time to educate yourself.
There are many successful auctioneers who are good role models.
